Today was an especially productive day, and I'm going to take this opportunity to reveal the working title of my upcoming novel along with a look at the day's numbers. It's a very encouraging report, if you ask me!
45k words! Huzzah! That fits very comfortably with my overall progress on the outline. I'm entering the third act, and just finished writing the story's climax. I'm pretty sure I'm right on track toward my overall manuscript goal of 70k words.
I try to set my daily goals conservatively, bearing in mind my ever-mounting obligations as a semi-functional adult. Still, I'm always thrilled when I surpass those little goals. It feels like I'm really getting somewhere. In his brilliant book On Writing, Stephen King suggests a minimum of 1,000 words per day. I find that to be a very manageable figure. Some days, I don't come close, usually when I get too caught up in research. Most days, however, I am pleasantly surprised.
As regards the title, Future Remains, I'll get into the significance of that some other time. For now, let's all do a happy dance to celebrate my good writing day. I'm thinking something Gagnam Style-esque would be most appropriate.
